JMJ SNEHA SADAN - “A HOME AWAY FROM HOME”
Seeing the plight of the children roaming about begging at the railway stations, bus stands and traffic lights of the twin cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad, was the beginning of our Home for the Street Children. Sr.Adriana Plakkal initiated the Project by discussing on doing something for these unfortunate children in consultation and full support of the then Rev.Sr.Martin Maliekal Provincial Superior and her Council. It was then that the goodness and generosity of late Dr. B.V. Raju the Padma Bhushan Awards gifted a piece of his land in Miyapur and his financial support for the building came as a boon to realize the cherished dream of starting a Home for the Street Children at present “JMJ Sneha Sadan” in Miyapur. The target group of the beneficiaries is girl children from different sources – from the streets, contacted and picked up by sisters, referred by some organizations, unwanted and neglected children brought by some active social workers, responsible citizens and helpful neighbours. The humble beginning of the home was initiated by Sr. Adriana Plakkal and Sr. Christopher Mallavarapu (late).
The children are well cared for, loved and provided with opportunities to grow up happily. As these children are devoid of their normal childhood facilities, they are found to be very naughty, aggressive, moody, sad, troublesome and possessive in the beginning. As they received love, care and guidance, they slowly opened up their life story which indeed is very painful to hear. They are given counselling and guidance for their self-acceptance and character formation. Some of these children are sent for bridge course and others are enrolled in different Schools mostly supported by the Government. It is heart-warming to see the children enjoying their childhood and growing up into helpful citizens.
As the years went by the JMJ Sneha Sadan are well known in the area and the generosity of the sponsors/well-wishers helped the Management to enrol the children in better Schools according to their aptitude and ability. Now the sisters experience the support and assistance of well-wishers, friends and neighbours, sponsors to help these children’s education. Now the Management feels proud to see the children getting educated and settled in life. The children are given all the facilities for education and according to their abilities and interest they go for academic or professional courses. They also have the motivational classes, counselling sessions etc. for their growth.
