Jyothinilayam Convent, the abode of light and life is situated in the heart of Pearl City, Hyderabad.  Though it is surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the city, it has got its own serenity and sanctity.

It has undergone great many changes during its existence from the time of its establishment.  When it was inaugurated on 26 May 1975, it was meant for the senior most sisters of India, and the Convent was named as  “Shanthinilayam”.  After the division of Indian Province into 3 Provinces, the sweet home of senior sisters’ Shanthinilayam, Somajiguda was converted into  “Formation House” of Hyderabad Province in 1991, and renamed as  “Jyothinilayam”.  The aged sisters were shifted to St.Theresa’s Convent, Sanathnagar.  Again on 31st October 1997, for the administrative convenience, Provincialate was shifted to Jyothinilayam and Formation House was shifted to Manoharabad, the sub urban area of Hyderabad.

So when we glance through the history of Jyothinilayam, we see that for 12 years, this house accommodated mature and seasoned religious, filled with prayer and sanctity, for another 10 years.  Young vibrant Aspiring farmers were here empowered to respond to their call gracefully.  Finally, since 1997, the Provincial Council is sending vibrations of the spirit, charism and spirituality of JMJ to all over the Hyderabad Province, from this House of the Lord – Jyothinilayam.

The present Jyothinilayam Convent, Somajiguda is attached to Provincialate and has its  own Superior and 15 sisters as inmates.  It has no direct apostolate and consists of sisters staff engaged in the Provincialate office and student sisters studying in Hyderabad.  Student sisters of the Province living outside the JMJ community of Hyderabad Province as well as sisters working in the Mission abroad belong to Jyothinilayam.

The community takes care of the Provincialate, the Retreat House and looks after the needs of the sisters coming for retreats, seminars, meetings, conferences, celebrations and play vital roles in all the functions and celebrations at the Province level.
