4. The mission of the Convent/ Institution Medical Clinic | Social Work (Tailoring Centre)

In the beginning Jagadgirigutta is part of St.Theresa’s Hospital.  The hospital authority felt the need of a rural area for the Health Centre.
St.Theresa’s Hosptial being a teaching institution is expected to have a Health Centre of its own in a nearby village for the Nursing students as part of their syllabus.  The students could be rotated to work in rural areas.  For this purpose, the Jagadgirigutta was chosen which is 20 kms. distance from St.Theresa’s Hospital, Sanathnagar Hospital.  Thus they started to put up a small building and began their mission as Medical Apostolate with Clinic.  Later on added Social Work, Skill Training, etc…

Late Sr.Celestine Thattil Perumpully was the pioneer who spent her time and energy for the bringing up developing this area.  At that time very poor people lived, most of them Rickshaw Pullers.  Slowly and steadily improved the living condition of the people changed as we see today what it is.
